Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for precise navigation and demanding applications, the lightweight ultrasonic wind sensor FT Technologies FT602-D-SM-EV provides reliable wind data. Weighing 170 g, it is made from a UV-stabilized polycarbonate blend, ensuring durability and resistance to marine elements. Its acoustic resonance measurement principle, a patented Acu-Res® technology, automatically compensates for temperature, pressure, and humidity variations, delivering stable and accurate measurements.
Performance and technical specifications
The FT602-D-SM-EV measures wind speed from 0 to 75 m/s with a resolution of 0.1 m/s and an accuracy of ±1% at 25 m/s. Wind direction is measured over a range of 0 to 360° with a resolution of 1° and an accuracy of ±1° at 25 m/s. An integrated electronic compass provides 5° RMS accuracy, making this sensor suitable for mobile platforms. It also provides acoustic temperature from -20 to +60°C (0.1° resolution, ±2°C accuracy at 21°C) and atmospheric pressure from 540 to 1200 hPa.
Connectivity and system integration
This FT Technologies wind sensor is powered by a 5 to 24 V DC range, with a nominal consumption of 28 mA at 24V DC and 40 mA at 5V DC. It offers versatile interface options with RS422 (full duplex), RS485 (half duplex), UART, CAN bus, ASCII, and NMEA 0183. Data update frequency can reach 10 measurements per second (10Hz) via NMEA 2000, ensuring high responsiveness. Its 12-pin M12 connector (PX0412/12P) simplifies integration.
Robustness and environment
Rated IP67, the FT602-D-SM-EV is fully sealed and water-resistant, supporting temporary immersion. It operates within a temperature range of -20 to +60°C and can be stored from -40 to +60°C. Its design with no moving parts eliminates mechanical wear, making the sensor maintenance-free and resistant to electromagnetic interference (EMI), shocks, and vibrations. Each unit is individually calibrated in a wind tunnel, ensuring traceable accuracy without requiring recalibration. Surface mounting is performed with an included adapter for pipe installation, offering installation flexibility, including upside-down mounting. Unlike some models in the FT7 series, the FT602 does not include a powerful de-icing system, positioning it for applications where extreme icing conditions are less prevalent.
