Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for marine navigation, the FURUNO SCX21 Satellite Compass NMEA0183 is a high-precision device that provides heading, position and motion data. It stands out for its unique four-antenna GNSS design, improving the accuracy and reliability of information, even in challenging conditions.
GNSS Accuracy and Multiple Support
The SCX21 integrates four separate GNSS antennas, allowing it to calculate heading across six unique baselines. This configuration enhances accuracy and reduces signal loss. The compass supports multiple GNSS systems, including GPS, QZSS, GLONASS, Galileo and SBAS. It delivers a heading accuracy of 1.0° RMS in static conditions and 0.5° RMS in dynamic conditions, with a speed accuracy of 0.02 knots. Attitude accuracy is 0.5° RMS dynamic and 1.0° RMS static, with an attitude settling time of 60 seconds. Wave height accuracy is 5 cm (1 σ).
Comprehensive Navigation Data and Connectivity
This satellite compass outputs precise time, position, heading, COG/SOG (course over ground/speed over ground), ROT (rate of turn), roll/pitch/heave (3-axis motion), air temperature and barometric pressure data. It features 3 NMEA0183 ports (3 Tx channels, 2 Rx channels) and a PPS (Pulse Per Second) port with RS-485 and rising-edge detection. Power requirement is 12–24 V DC (10.8–31.2 V) with power consumption of 0.1–0.2 A. The unit is rated IP56 for water resistance and operates in a temperature range of -25°C to +55°C (storage from -30°C to +70°C). It is certified to IEC 60945 Ed. 4 for vibration.
Optimization of Onboard Systems
The SCX21 enhances the performance of connected marine equipment such as radars, fishfinders, sonars and autopilots. It contributes to stable radar echo traces, eliminating irregular patterns. For autopilots, it provides accurate and consistent heading data, optimizing course-keeping and fuel consumption. Pitch, roll and heave data stabilize fishfinder and sonar displays, ensuring clear images and wave compensation for a stable seabed image. The NMEA0183 output ports are programmable to adjust data rates (4800 or 38400 baud) and NMEA sentence content. The compass can be configured and controlled via the Furuno GP-39 display, although it requires a separate power supply.
