Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for deep-water fishing and precise seabed detection, the bronze through-hull GARMIN Airmar B258 transducer is a 1 kW solution offering depth and water temperature sensing capabilities. Operating at dual frequencies of 50 kHz and 200 kHz, it is suitable for fiberglass or wooden hulls and connects via an 8-pin connector to compatible Garmin equipment.
Technical Performance and Versatility
The B258 transducer stands out with its 1 kW power, enabling it to reach depths of 441 to 670 meters at 50 kHz and up to 294 meters at 200 kHz. Its construction includes four ceramic elements, providing 25 times the sensitivity of a 600 W single-element 50/200 kHz transducer. The elliptical beams (14°x23° or 15°x21° at 50 kHz and 3°x5° at 200 kHz) ensure wide coverage and effective target resolution. Compared to models like the B45 or SS505, which are more compact, the B258 is designed for vessels 9 meters and larger, requiring greater range and better underwater definition. It serves as a robust alternative to CHIRP transducers in the B265/B275/B285 series for users prioritizing traditional high-power fixed frequencies.
Installation and Hydrodynamic Optimization
The through-hull installation of the B258 includes a high-performance fairing block. This fairing block ensures laminar water flow beneath the transducer face, delivering clear and stable displays at speeds up to 30 knots (34 MPH). The fairing block accommodates hull deadrise angles from 0° to 26° and requires a 30 mm (1 3/16 inches) hole for the main transducer body installation, as well as a 14 mm (9/16 inches) hole for the anti-rotation bolt, essential for fairing stability. Installation is recommended on fiberglass or wooden hulls. The B258 offers versatility for various fishing applications, from coastal and offshore trolling to structure and deep-seabed detection.
