Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin GMR Fantom 256 radar is a solid-state open-array system with a 6-foot array designed for accurate detection and identification of marine targets. With 250 W of power, it offers extended detection range from 20 feet (6 meters) up to 96 nautical miles, and a 1.25-degree horizontal beam width for improved target separation.
Advanced Detection and Tracking Technologies
This radar integrates MotionScope™ technology that detects and highlights moving targets with distinct colors, facilitating collision avoidance, bird tracking, and weather monitoring. Pulse compression technology maximizes transmitted energy for high-resolution imaging. The automatic MARPA tracking system allows for the acquisition and tracking of up to 30 moving targets without user intervention. The Auto Bird Gain feature helps identify bird aggregations, often indicators of fishing zones. Dynamic sea clutter filtering automatically adjusts gain based on conditions to optimize performance.
Navigation and Integration Features
The GMR Fantom 256 offers adjustable rotation speeds of 24 and 48 RPM, with high speed available in single-range mode on settings of 12 NM or less. The True Echo Trails function displays a fading trail of moving targets, aiding in direction identification while accounting for vessel motion. Radar overlay allows radar data to be displayed directly on the chartplotter screen, either in single or split-screen mode with independent range settings. A guard zone can be configured to trigger an alarm when an object enters it. Dual-range mode allows simultaneous display of short- and long-range radar images with independent settings.
Design and Technical Specifications
The radar has pedestal dimensions of 42.1 x 36.4 x 27.1 cm and a total assembly height of 40.3 cm with a 190.9 cm diameter. The antenna weighs 7.3 kg and the pedestal 15.7 kg. It operates on an input voltage of 10 to 32 V and has an IPX6 waterproof rating. The GMR Fantom 256 is compatible with Garmin multifunction displays from the GPSMAP 8400/8600, 8000/8200, and 7400/7600 series, as well as GPSMAP chartplotters 10x2/12x2 and 7x2/9x2. It features instant-on capability, silent operation, and low power consumption.
