Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin GPSMAP 1222xsv is a chartplotter and multifunction fishfinder from Garmin’s current GPSMAP professional line, designed for advanced network integration and superior video monitoring. This unit allows direct visualization and control of video feeds from the display, offering features such as pinch-to-zoom and swipe-to-pan/tilt camera control. Camera settings can be customized and presets stored on-screen for each camera, including position and zoom data.
Video and marine network integration
The GPSMAP 1222xsv includes a video encoder function, enabling it to share connected video feeds via its composite video input across all Garmin Marine network displays. Unlike earlier GPSMAP series (8000, 8200, 8500, 7x1, 7400, and 7600), this model offers extended compatibility with third-party network cameras and FLIR cameras. To connect standard Ethernet devices such as network cameras or switches, a Garmin PoE isolation coupler (010-10580-10) is required to protect the chartplotter. Garmin recommends not streaming more than five video sources simultaneously to ensure optimal network performance. FLIR cameras (M and MD series) are automatically detected on the network, simplifying setup without pre-installation.
Camera tracking features
This chartplotter supports advanced camera tracking functions critical for safety and situational awareness. It allows locking the camera to a fixed compass heading (Compass Lock), locking to a fixed angle relative to the vessel (Vessel Lock), and tracking AIS targets, MARPA, or waypoints (slew-to-cue). These features require connection of specific sensors via the Garmin Marine network or NMEA 2000, including a GPS antenna, a heading sensor (ideally 9-axis for yaw, pitch, and roll), a compatible AIS receiver and/or compatible radar for MARPA tracking. Precise adjustment of camera angle and height is essential to optimize tracking performance.
