Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for freshwater anglers, the Garmin GT15M-TM transducer is a versatile CHIRP sonar solution offering targeted performance for fish identification and bottom mapping. This rear-mount or trolling motor transducer serves as a dedicated option for traditional sonar, which, on compatible Garmin units, can also support ClearVü and SideVü technologies (at 500 W), though its primary purpose is traditional sonar. The GT15M-TM provides a solid foundation for efficient navigation and fishing without the excess data for users prioritizing the simplicity and performance of 2D sonar.
Sonar Performance and Technical Specifications
The Garmin GT15M-TM transducer uses mid-band CHIRP technology, operating within a frequency range of 85 to 165 kHz. With a 600 W RMS transmission power, it can reach a maximum depth of 1,900 feet in freshwater, ensuring extended coverage for most lake and river environments. Its beam offers a variable width of 24 to 13 degrees, contributing to clear bottom definition and sharp target separation. In addition to depth, it also provides water temperature readings, essential information for analyzing fishing zones. Equipped with an 8-pin connector, it is directly compatible with a selection of Garmin multifunction displays, including the STRIKER 4cv, 5cv, 7cv, ECHOMAP CHIRP 4Xcv, 5Xcv series, GPSMAP xs combos, and the GSD 25 sounder module.
Installation and Integration
The GT15M-TM is designed for installation on the transom or trolling motor, offering flexibility for integration on various boat types, including trailerable vessels. Installation instructions emphasize the importance of applying water-based antifouling paint for prolonged submersion use to prevent marine growth. The transducer cable should be routed carefully, away from potential sources of electromagnetic interference such as ignition wires, service batteries, electric motors, or high-energy cables (radar, audio amplifier, autopilot pump), to ensure optimal signal integrity. The mounting bracket allows adjustment for transom angles from 0 to 70 degrees, optimizing the sonar beam orientation relative to the water surface. The transducer cable measures 30 feet, a standard length for most installations.
