Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin Surround View system is an advanced peripheral vision solution designed to provide a complete 360° view around the vessel. This system integrates six external cameras connected to a central GSV™ 10 unit, delivering detailed video information to compatible devices on the Garmin marine network. It significantly assists during complex maneuvers by enhancing spatial awareness.
Surround View System Architecture and Components
The system’s core is the black GSV™ 10 box (P/N: A04060), which centralizes video streams. It is compatible with a combination of six GC™ 50 flush-mount cameras (P/N: B04060) and/or GC™ 40 surface-mount cameras (P/N: B04060). Each camera is connected to the GSV 10 via a dedicated coaxial cable, which supplies power (12 to 24 Vdc) and transmits video. The GSV 10 connects to a compatible Garmin chartplotter via a Garmin BlueNet™ cable, ensuring high-performance network integration. The GSV 10’s NMEA 2000, J1939, and USB ports are not used for this system.
Specific Installation and Integration
Installing the Surround View system is a technical process requiring meticulous planning in collaboration with Garmin engineering. Precise positioning of the six cameras (bow, port/starboard bow, port/starboard quarter, stern) is critical for optimal coverage. Specific considerations include dry-dock preparation with at least 2 meters of space around the vessel and precise leveling of the intended waterline. Garmin-supplied coaxial cables must be used without modification (cutting, termination, splicing), unless otherwise instructed by Garmin, to preserve warranty and system functionality. The GSV 10 unit must be mounted in a ventilated location, protected from extreme temperatures or immersion, and at least 2.54 cm away from interference sources. Compatibility with Garmin BlueNet™ and Garmin Marine Network is ensured, with a preference for BlueNet connectivity for optimal performance and future updates.
