GT30-TM ClearVü / SideVü depth sounder with rear display (12-pin)

The Garmin GT30-TM transducer uses ClearVü™ and SideVü™ sonar technologies. These technologies provide detailed images of the seabed, underwater structures, and fish, particularly suited for shallow-water fishing.

For optimal performance, the transducer must be installed:

Parallel to the waterline.As close as possible to the center of the boat.Away from seams, stringers, fittings, water intakes or discharges, or any element that may create bubbles or turbulence.At least 38 cm (15 in) from the propeller on boats with outboard or inboard/outboard engines.On the side opposite to the turbulence generated by the propeller (starboard side if the propeller rotates clockwise, port side if it rotates counterclockwise).

To reduce interference:

Electromagnetic Interference (EMI): Ensure the sonar device and other equipment are properly grounded. Route the transducer cable away from power cables and electromagnetic sources (engines, radar, etc.). If the cable must cross a power cable, do so at a 90-degree angle.

Turbulence Interference: Mount the transducer as far as possible from submerged equipment or hull features (steps, strakes) that can agitate the water.

Acoustic Interference: Avoid mounting the transducer behind through-hulls, water intake or discharge ports, or hull irregularities. If using multiple transducers, space them at least 60 cm (24 in) apart.

Yes, it is important to consider the propeller's rotation direction. The propeller creates a current known as the "prop wash" that can interfere with the depth sounder's signal. If the propeller rotates clockwise, it generates turbulence on the port side; you should mount the depth sounder on the starboard side. If it rotates counterclockwise, it generates turbulence on the starboard side; you should mount the depth sounder on the port side.

If the transducer is to remain in the water for a long time, it is recommended to prepare it to prevent marine growth:

Lightly sand the transducer and mounting hardware with fine-grit abrasive pad.
Clean the transducer and mounting hardware with isopropyl alcohol.
Apply water-based antifouling paint to the transducer and mounting hardware.
Warning: Never use acetone or acetone-based products, as this will damage the transducer’s plastic housing.

For installation of the GT30-TM transducer, you will need the following tools:

A drill and drill bits.A Phillips #2 screwdriver.Masking tape.Marine sealant.

For the mounting holes of the bracket, use a 4 mm (5/32 in) drill bit and drill to a depth of approximately 18 mm (7/10 in). If you need to route the cable through the back panel, for a 12-pin cable like the one on the GT30-TM, use a 25 mm (1 in) drill bit for the pass-through hole.

To test the installation:

Put the boat in the water and power on the display. Drive the boat at low speed. If the sonar is working correctly, gradually increase speed while watching the screen. If the sonar signal is lost or significantly degraded at a certain speed, note that speed. Return to that speed and make moderate turns in both directions. If the signal improves while turning, adjust the transducer so it extends about 3 mm (1/8 in) deeper in the water. Make adjustments in small increments to avoid placing the transducer too deep, which could affect boat performance or risk damaging the transducer.

Yes, transom-mount transducers such as the GT30-TM work with any hull material. However, they are not recommended for sailboats due to excessive heel or for vessels with deep-V hulls.

Yes, it is recommended to update the software of your Garmin display when installing this transducer. You can do this via the ActiveCaptain app if your display has Wi-Fi technology, or via an SD card and a computer if it does not.
