Technical specifications of the Icom IC-M510E EVO VHF
The Icom IC-M510E EVO fixed marine VHF is a Class D DSC transceiver measuring 175 x 110 x 53 mm and weighing 750 g. Its shallow 5.3 cm mounting depth allows flush installation on modern consoles. It operates on a transmit frequency range of 156.025 to 157.425 MHz and a receive frequency range of 156.050 to 163.275 MHz, with selectable output power of 1 W or 25 W. This model features an integrated GNSS receiver with an antenna built into the housing, while retaining connectivity for an optional external UX-241 antenna. The entire front panel and chassis meet IP68 waterproofing standards, ensuring resistance to immersion under 1 meter of water for 60 minutes.
Positioning within the product range and network connectivity
Unlike the IC-M510EAIS EVO model in the same range, which includes a native AIS receiver, this standard IC-M510E EVO version focuses solely on communication functions. This positioning makes it specifically suitable for vessels already equipped with an independent AIS transponder or a multiplexed network. The EVO designation reflects the technical evolution of this series through native integration of the NMEA 2000 protocol, in addition to NMEA 0183. The integrated WiFi module (WLAN) supports simultaneous connection of up to three mobile devices via the free RS-M500 app (iOS and Android). This interface turns a smartphone into a wireless microphone, remote control, and enables intercom functionality between the VHF and the phone. The device can also be operated from the optional wired remote station HM-195GB.
Audio functions, display, and navigation
The user interface is based on a color TFT LCD screen with a viewing angle of nearly 180 degrees, complemented by a dedicated night mode and white backlit buttons. The embedded computer system offers simplified navigation capable of guiding the vessel to 100 waypoints. Sound reproduction uses an internal 15 W waterproof speaker with active noise reduction (Active Noise Cancelling) that digitally filters background noise during both transmission and reception. Water drainage from the speaker grille is handled by the AquaQuake function through low-frequency emission. Finally, the radio includes a 25 W amplifier for bidirectional hailer function (Two-Way Hailer) and 20 W in receive mode (RX Hailer), enabling automated fog horn signals when connected to an external SP-37 speaker.
