Detailed description
Detailed description
The NAC-2 Autopilot Computer is the central component of your Navico autopilot system, designed for boats up to 10 meters (35 feet). It processes heading and rudder feedback sensor data to accurately steer your vessel, in conjunction with a control head and a drive unit (pump or mechanical ram).
Performance and Power
The NAC-2 is capable of delivering a continuous output current of 8A with peaks up to 12A, making it compatible with a wide range of 12/24V DC drive units, including medium-sized hydraulic pumps and mechanical drives. Its maximum power consumption is 750W, but in typical use, it depends directly on the demand from the rudder actuator. The enclosure is IPX5 certified, ensuring protection against water jets and secure installation in protected marine environments.
Connectivity and System Integration
Designed for seamless integration, the NAC-2 features an NMEA 2000 (Micro-C) port for easy connection to multifunction displays, compasses, and other sensors within the B&G, Simrad, or Lowrance ecosystems. It also includes an NMEA 0183 (IN/OUT) port to ensure compatibility with older equipment. The computer supports variable voltage/resistive (0-5V) rudder feedback sensors and has an external alarm output (max 100 mA).
Positioning in the Navico Range
The NAC-2 is the mid-range model in the Navico computer lineup. It sits above the NAC-1, intended for smaller cable-steered systems, and below the NAC-3, which is designed for larger boats requiring higher output current for high-capacity drive units. The NAC-2 is therefore an ideal choice for the majority of powerboats and sailboats under 35 feet.
