Detailed description
Detailed description
The Navico NAIS-500 is an ultra-compact and lightweight Class B AIS transponder (260 g), designed to integrate seamlessly with modern navigation networks. Ideal for sailboats and cruising motorboats, it transmits and receives AIS data to prevent collisions. Unlike 5W SOTDMA (Class B+) models like the V3100 in the same range, this model transmits at 2W (33 dBm) using CSTDMA technology, positioning it as a proven standard solution, perfectly suited for classic coastal and offshore navigation while conserving battery power.
NMEA 2000 and Dual NMEA 0183 Connectivity
This transponder offers maximum installation flexibility for B&G, Simrad, and Lowrance ecosystems. It features an NMEA 2000 port (LEN=1) for direct plug-and-play connection with multifunction displays. For refits or older systems, it includes two independent bidirectional NMEA 0183 ports: a high-speed port (38,400 baud) dedicated to chartplotters, and a low-speed port (4,800 baud) for other instruments. An internal multiplexing function automatically redirects data received on the low-speed port to the high-speed port. A mini-B USB port is also present for initial configuration via PC or Mac with MMSI number assignment.
Robust Design and Electrical Performance
Designed to withstand the harshest marine environments, the NAIS-500's casing is IP67 waterproof and tolerates extreme temperatures from -15 °C to +55 °C. It incorporates a 50-channel internal GPS receiver (IEC 61108-1 compliant) ensuring fast and accurate positioning, requiring an external GPS antenna to be connected to its SMA connector. Its power supply accepts a very wide voltage range from 9.6 V to 31.2 V DC, making it natively compatible with 12V and 24V battery banks. Its power consumption is particularly optimized with an average of only 180 mA at 12V (2 A peak during transmission). A dedicated input on the harness also allows for wiring an external switch to easily activate silent mode (receive only, transmission off).
