Detailed description
Detailed description
The Victron Energy 12.8V/100Ah Smart battery is a LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) energy storage solution for demanding marine and mobile applications. With a nominal voltage of 12.8 V and a capacity of 100 Ah, it delivers a nominal energy of 1280 Wh at 25 °C. This battery is designed for 12 V, 24 V, or 48 V systems, allowing battery banks of up to 20 units for a maximum capacity of 84 kWh in a 12 V system.
Advantages of LiFePO4 technology
Unlike lead-acid batteries, LiFePO4 technology does not require systematic full charging, which can even extend its lifespan in cases of partial charging. It maintains a round-trip energy efficiency of 92 %, compared to 80 % for an average lead-acid battery. This efficiency remains at 90 % even with shallow discharge. Lifespan is also a major advantage, with 2500 cycles at 80 % depth of discharge (DoD) and up to 5000 cycles at 50 % DoD. These features result in up to 70 % reduction in space and weight compared to equivalent lead-acid solutions.
Monitoring and smart management
The Victron Energy Smart model features Bluetooth connectivity, enabling real-time monitoring of cell voltages, temperature, and alerts via the VictronConnect app. This functionality facilitates quick diagnostics, particularly in cases of cell imbalance. A Battery Management System (BMS) is required to operate these batteries, providing protection against undervoltage (disconnecting the load at 2.8 V per cell), overvoltage (stopping charging beyond 3.75 V per cell), and extreme temperatures. Victron offers six different BMS solutions, suitable for various application scenarios. The BMS connection uses a male + female cable with an M8 circular connector, 50 cm in length.
