The Victron Energy BatteryProtect 48V-100A is a battery protection solution designed for 48V systems. It disconnects non-essential loads before the battery is fully discharged, preventing damage and ensuring sufficient capacity for engine starting. This model differs from Smart BatteryProtect versions by its programming via a PROG pin to GND, facilitated by a 7-segment LED display, allowing selection from multiple engagement and disconnection voltage thresholds.
Technical Performance and Built-in Safety
Designed for a voltage range of 24 to 64V, this BatteryProtect offers overvoltage protection by disconnecting the load if continuous voltage exceeds 64V. Its design includes MOSFET switches, ensuring "ignition proof" operation without sparks. Current consumption is ultra-low, with 2 mA in active mode and 1.5 mA in standby or after a low-voltage cutoff, an advantage for Li-ion battery installations. It handles a maximum continuous charge current of 100A and a peak current of 250A. The device is unidirectional; current must flow from the IN terminal to the OUT terminal. It is not designed for reverse currents from charging sources.
Integration and Advanced Management
The BatteryProtect 48V-100A features a specific setting for Li-ion batteries, allowing direct control by an external BMS such as the VE.Bus BMS. The alarm output is activated after 12 seconds of low voltage, not triggered by engine start. This open-collector output, short-circuit resistant (max. 50 mA), can drive a buzzer or indicator light. The load disconnection delays (90 seconds after alarm, immediate if controlled by the VE.Bus BMS) and reconnection delays (30 seconds after voltage increase) are optimized for system stability. Default thresholds are 42V for disconnection and 48V for engagement. The electronics are protected by an encapsulated housing (IP67), while the connections (M8) are IP00. Its dimensions are 62 x 123 x 120 mm with a weight of 0.8 kg. A pre-assembled DC negative cable connector is included.
