Designed as an all-in-one battery management system (BMS), the smallBMS NG from VICTRON ENERGY is dedicated to Victron Lithium NG (LiFePO4) batteries of 12.8V, 25.6V, and 51.2V. It enables the creation of battery banks in series, parallel, or mixed configurations for system voltages of 12V, 24V, or 48V. This BMS manages up to 50 batteries for 12V or 24V systems, and up to 25 batteries for 48V systems, supporting a maximum storage capacity of 192 kWh (12V), 384 kWh (24V), or 128 kWh (48V).
Connectivity and Control Functions
The smallBMS NG integrates Bluetooth Smart technology, providing wireless configuration, monitoring, and firmware updates via the VictronConnect app. The "Instant Readout" feature allows direct viewing of key data such as state of charge (SoC), battery temperature, warnings, and alarms directly from the device list. It includes a load disconnect output (max 500mA, not short-circuit protected) and a consumption disconnect output (max 1A, not short-circuit protected) to remotely control the on/off inputs of compatible BatteryProtect units, DC-DC converters, inverters, or chargers such as the Smart Charger IP43 or Cyrix-Li-Charge and Cyrix-Li-ct relays.
Safety and Energy Management
For battery bank safety, a pre-alarm output is activated at least 30 seconds before the load disconnect output is deactivated in case of cell undervoltage, capable of driving a relay, LED, or buzzer (max 500mA, not short-circuit protected). The remote on/off terminal allows external control of the disconnect outputs. The smallBMS NG offers a configurable discharge threshold to prevent excessive discharges and maintain an energy reserve. Compared to the VE.Bus BMS NG, the smallBMS NG is a simpler and more economical alternative, lacking VE.Bus interface and thus unsuitable for MultiPlus and Quattro VE.Bus inverters/chargers. Its matte black ABS enclosure provides IP20 protection, and its compact dimensions (106 x 42 x 23 mm for 0.1 kg) facilitate integration. It operates within a voltage range of 8 to 70 Vdc and a temperature range of -20 to +50 °C.
