The Victron Energy SmartSolar MPPT 250/60-Tr charge controller is designed to optimize solar panel energy harvesting and battery charging. It features ultra-fast MPPT technology that improves energy recovery by up to 30% compared to PWM controllers and up to 10% compared to slower MPPT controllers, particularly under cloudy skies or during light intensity changes. Its advanced maximum power point (MPP) tracking algorithm ensures maximum power output even in partial shading, avoiding lock-in on suboptimal local MPPs.
Integration and Technical Performance
This 250/60-Tr model handles maximum PV voltages of 250 VDC and a nominal charge current of 60 A. It supports nominal PV power ratings up to 860 W for 12 V systems, 1720 W for 24 V, 2580 W for 36 V, and 3440 W for 48 V. Conversion efficiency exceeds 99%, with no cooling fan required, ensuring silent operation. Flexibility is provided by a fully programmable charging algorithm, complemented by eight selectable presets via a rotary switch. It includes extensive electronic protection against overheating (with power derating), PV short circuits, PV polarity reversal, and PV reverse current.
Connectivity and Advanced Features
The SmartSolar MPPT 250/60-Tr features integrated Bluetooth Smart for configuration, monitoring, and firmware updates via the VictronConnect app. The VE.Direct port enables wired connection to devices such as the Color Control GX, other GX products, or a PC. An internal temperature sensor compensates for charging voltages, and a programmable relay can be configured to trigger alarms or other events. The fully discharged battery recovery function allows charging to begin even if the battery is at zero volts. This model can be synchronized with up to 10 units via Bluetooth for parallel charging and is compatible with lithium batteries. It is also compatible with an optional plug-in SmartSolar Control LCD display for direct monitoring and configuration.
