Detailed description
Detailed description
The ICOM IC-M804 is a marine SSB (Single Side Band) MF/HF transceiver designed for long-range communications beyond the horizon. Compliant with ITU-R M.493-15 and ETSI EN 300 338-4 regulations for Class E DSC, this unit is an essential communication and safety device for offshore navigation. It differs from VHF radios by its ability to maintain reliable links over vast maritime areas, positioning the IC-M804 as a strategic equipment for recreational vessels and light commercial units not subject to GMDSS Class A requirements.
Advanced Safety and Communication
The Class E DSC function of the ICOM IC-M804 includes an independent distress button, protected by a spring-loaded cover, enabling rapid transmission of a digital distress signal with GNSS coordinates. A dedicated DSC watch receiver continuously monitors all six distress channels in rotation. The unit can store up to 100 MMSI numbers (75 individual and 25 group), each with a 10-character identification name. The two-minute instant replay memory ensures no incoming call is missed, allowing playback of received messages.
Intuitive Interface and Display
The controller of the ICOM IC-M804 features a 4.3-inch TFT color screen with a near 180-degree viewing angle and clear readability, even in night mode. The user interface combines a directional pad and programmable keys for quick access to common functions. A numeric keypad enables smooth entry of channel or MMSI numbers. The main unit measures 367 (W) × 95 (H) × 260 (D) mm and weighs 8.6 kg, while the controller, measuring 274 (W) × 114 (H) × 86 (D) mm and weighing 760 g, has IPX7 protection, resisting immersion to 1 meter for 30 minutes.
Technical Performance and Connectivity
The ICOM IC-M804 offers extended frequency coverage: continuous reception from 500 kHz to 29.9999 MHz and transmission on key segments from 1.6 to 27.5000 MHz. The PEP output power reaches 85 W on 1.6–3.9999 MHz and 125 W on 4.0–27.5000 MHz via the AT-141 automatic antenna tuner. The unit integrates a GNSS receiver compatible with GPS, GLONASS, and SBAS, with a supplied GNSS antenna (5 m cable). Connectivity is ensured via NMEA 2000™ and NMEA 0183/-HS, enabling data exchange for position, DSC calls, and radio information with other networked equipment. The advanced direct RF sampling system delivers high reception sensitivity (e.g., 8 dBμV emf for J3E/A1A between 1.6 and 29.9999 MHz). Power input is flexible, accepting 10.8–15.6 V (12 V DC) or 21.6–31.2 V (24 V DC), with a maximum consumption of 40 A during transmission (12 V) or 20 A (24 V).
