Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for advanced navigation systems, the Garmin J1939 cable (part number 010-12390-30) is an essential accessory for integrating GPSMAP 8400 and 8600 chartplotters with J1939 engine networks. This cable enables engine and generator data monitoring and display directly on the chartplotter screen, providing a centralized interface for critical information.
Extended connectivity and compatibility
The Garmin J1939 cable is specifically designed to connect the GPSMAP 8400 and 8600 series to a J1939 engine network. It is also compatible with the GPSMAP 7400/7600 series (subject to the presence of a J1939 port on older models) and the GPSMAP 8700 black box. Like the NMEA 2000® network, the J1939 network is an industrial standard for communication between heavy vehicle computers, including marine engines, and uses proprietary messages. Using this official Garmin accessory cable is mandatory to prevent corrosion and maintain product warranty validity.
Technical features and installation
This J1939 cable connects to the J1939 engine network. It must not be connected to an additional power supply if an existing J1939 engine network is already powered. The chartplotter receives J1939 frames from compatible engines but does not transmit any data on this network. For complex installations with multiple J1939 devices, it is necessary to use multiple Garmin chartplotters compatible with J1939 or J1939-to-NMEA 2000 converters. This cable facilitates the display of numerous critical PGNs (Parameter Group Numbers), such as engine RPM (61444), exhaust temperature (65031), engine hours (65253), coolant temperature/pressure (65262), oil temperature/pressure (65263), transmission fluid temperature/pressure (65272), fuel rate (65266), diagnostic codes (65226), and generator data (frequency/current/voltage 65030) and battery data (voltage/current 127508).
