Detailed description
Detailed description
The OPC-BA9018 refers to the ICOM MA-510TR Class B standalone AIS transponder, a complete solution for maritime safety. This system provides increased visibility at sea by continuously transmitting and receiving identification, position, and route data from AIS-equipped vessels. It features a 4.3-inch backlit color LCD screen with a wide viewing angle and optimal readability in both day and night modes.
Advanced Navigation and Safety
The ICOM MA-510TR transponder (OPC-BA9018) integrates an advanced collision-avoidance calculator with audible and visual alarms, signaling potentially hazardous targets. Its built-in GPS receiver, equipped with SBAS precision, is complemented by a GNSS antenna supplied with 10 meters of cable for reliable position acquisition. NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183-HS interfaces ensure plug-and-play integration with compatible chartplotters, radars, and external VHFs, maximizing your navigation system’s functionality. An AIS output via micro-USB connector allows data exploitation on PC.
MA-510TR Features and Connectivity
The MA-510TR (OPC-BA9018) offers intuitive AIS target management via detailed lists (Targets, Danger, Friends) and simplified navigation to 100 programmable waypoints or AIS targets. The MOB (Man Overboard) function enables quick return to the incident point. A mooring alarm alerts to any drift. This transponder also supports direct ASN calls on compatible ICOM VHFs (IC-M605EURO, IC-M510E, IC-M506EURO, etc.) by selecting an AIS target. Powered by 12 V or 24 V and IPX7 certified, it ensures robustness suited to the marine environment.
Positioning and Comparison
Compared to black-box AIS units like the Garmin AIS 800 or Raymarine AIS700, the ICOM MA-510TR transponder (OPC-BA9018) positions itself as a standalone solution with a dedicated color screen, eliminating the need for a multifunction chartplotter to view AIS data. While other transponders may be more compact or integrated into VHFs, the MA-510TR provides a full graphical user interface, similar to entry-level chartplotters, for direct maritime traffic management and basic navigation functions. Its 5-year warranty underscores ICOM’s reliability. It is an ideal complement to ICOM radars, such as the MR-1010RII, enhancing the entire collision detection and prevention system aboard.
