Detailed description
Detailed description
The Icom IC-M710 HF marine SSB Mail Pack is a MF/HF transceiver designed for reliable and durable global maritime communications. It provides a complete solution for long-range navigation, combining ease of use and robustness. With 150 W output power and extended frequency coverage, the IC-M710 is a proven choice for sailors requiring global connectivity, a distinct advantage over short-range VHF radios or lower-power entry-level SSB systems.
Communication Performance and Versatility
The Icom IC-M710 ensures long-distance communication with a maximum output power of 150 W PEP on 1.6–23.999 MHz bands, and 60 W PEP on 24.0–27.500 MHz, with selectable levels of 150, 60, or 20 W depending on the frequency. It covers all authorized transmit bands between 1.6 and 27.5 MHz and general receive from 500 kHz to 29.9999 MHz. Operating modes include J3E (USB, LSB), H3E (AM), J2B (AFSK), F1B (FSK), R3E, and A1A (CW), offering high flexibility. Its ability to handle demanding operations such as RTTY (radioteletype) and NBDP (narrow-band direct-printing) at full power continuously, thanks to a die-cast aluminum chassis and cooling fan, sets it apart from less robust equipment.
Robust Design and Marine Ergonomics
Built for the marine environment, the IC-M710 incorporates high-quality components in a die-cast aluminum chassis, ensuring extended use. It operates within a usable temperature range of –30°C to +60°C (warranty from –20°C to +60°C). The easy-to-read alphanumeric display allows quick information access, with the ability to program up to seven characters per memory channel for station or vessel names. Access to the 1136 available channels (160 programmable, 242 ITU SSB duplex, 72 ITU SSB simplex, 662 ITU FSK duplex) is facilitated by two large memory and frequency dials, as well as direct input via the keypad. NMEA terminals enable interfacing for frequency and mode control. Its dimensions are 291.4 × 116.4 × 315 mm, weighing 7.8 kg.
Built-in Features and Expansion
The IC-M710 HF marine SSB Mail Pack includes features such as RF gain control, audio-activated squelch, a large front-mounted speaker, and backlighting control. It is ready for weather fax reception. Automatic antenna tuning is available with the optional AT-140 antenna tuner, simplifying setup on new frequencies. The CW mode offers "full break-in" and "semi break-in" functions. Power requirement is 13.6V DC ±15%, with 2.5A consumption in receive (max audio output) and 30A in transmit (full power). Included accessories are a hand microphone, mounting bracket kit, spare fuses, DC power cable, microphone holder, and ACC/speaker jacks.
