Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for electric bilge drainage, the Whale Supersub 500 Bilge Pump - 12 V (part number SS5012) is a compact, low-profile submersible pump. It is specifically engineered to fit in tight, low spaces where other pumps cannot reach, ensuring effective drainage for recreational vessels up to 24 meters (78.8 feet).
Performance and technical specifications
The Supersub 500 delivers a flow rate of 500 US Gallons Per Hour (GPH) or 32 litres per minute in an open circuit. At a discharge head of 1 meter (3 feet), its flow rate is 400 GPH, or 25 litres per minute. It operates on 12 V DC with a maximum current draw of 2.4 amperes, requiring a 5-ampere automotive fuse for protection. The hose connection is 3/4 inch (19 mm). Its dimensions are 54 mm (height), 74.6 mm (width) and 182.5 mm (length), weighing approximately 270 grams. The residual water level is 9 to 10 mm thanks to its low-profile strainer. The recommended minimum wiring gauge is 1.5 mm² (16 AWG).
Design and installation
This non-automatic bilge pump is designed for use with a separate bilge switch. Its design allows flexible installation with a rotatable pump body and outlet, enabling vertical or horizontal mounting. Snap-in assembly and a removable strainer simplify maintenance. An integrated bleed ball helps prevent air pockets, and a check valve (LV1219) is recommended as an option. Materials include polypropylene and high-temperature ABS for the pump body, an acetal locking ring, a glass-reinforced PBT impeller, nitrile seals, and stainless-steel fasteners, ensuring durable marine construction.
Compliance and safety
The Whale Supersub 500 bilge pump is ignition-protected to ABYC and USCG standards and complies with ISO 8849 and ISO 15083. It is also EMC-compliant, NMMA-accepted, and CE-certified, attesting to its reliability and safety for marine applications. It carries a limited 3-year warranty.
