Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for efficient drainage of narrow and shallow bilges, the Supersub 1100 - 12 V automatic bilge pump by Whale (reference SS1212) is a compact solution for recreational vessels up to 24 meters (78.8 feet). Its low-profile design allows installation in confined spaces where other bilge pumps may not fit. It features automatic operation via an electric field sensor, eliminating the need for an external bilge switch.
Performance and technical design
The Supersub 1100 operates on 12 V DC and delivers an open-circuit flow rate of 1050 US gallons per hour (GPH), approximately 66 liters per minute. At a discharge head of 1 meter, the flow rate remains at 750 GPH (approximately 47 liters per minute). Its low current draw, between 4.3 and 5 amps, helps preserve battery autonomy. A 5 or 7 ampere (automotive) fuse is recommended for adequate electrical protection. The maximum discharge head is 3 meters (10 feet), and it can drain down to a minimal water level of 9 mm (1/3 inch).
Integration and robustness
With dimensions of 75 mm in height, 54 mm in width, and 240 mm in length, and a weight of approximately 0.45 to 0.5 kg, this pump is compact. It features stepped hose connections of 25 mm (1") or 28 mm (1 1/8"). The pump body and outlet are rotatable, offering installation flexibility to adapt to various bilge configurations. The design includes a non-return valve and a purge ball to prevent siphoning and airlocks. Components are made from marine-environment-resistant materials: polypropylene and high-temperature ABS for the pump body, acetal for the locking ring, glass-reinforced polypropylene (PBT or polypropylene) for the impeller, nitrile seals, and stainless steel fasteners. The electronics are fully encapsulated for enhanced waterproofing.
Advanced features and maintenance
The Supersub Smart 1100 water detection system is designed to be unaffected by wave motion, preventing false activations. It has a 5-second activation delay upon water detection and stops after 25 seconds if the water level has dropped. A manual override feature is also included. Maintenance is simplified by a snap-fit assembly and a specific strainer design that allows quick cleaning. The pump complies with ISO 8849 and ISO 15083 standards and is ignition-protected per ABYC and USCG requirements. Its mercury-free design makes it environmentally friendly.
