• Range and Frequencies: Choose a marine VHF radio with a range suitable for your navigation area. DSC (Digital Selective Calling) models are highly recommended for their automated distress function. Also consider SSB (Single Sideband) radios for long-distance communication on the high seas.
• NMEA 2000 Compatibility: Integrating your VHF radio into the NMEA 2000 network allows AIS (Automatic Identification System) information to be displayed directly on the radio screen, providing better visibility of surrounding maritime traffic. Ensure compatibility with your chartplotter.
